I have been working on character sheets in the background and among them, I drew Adalynn. She’s the cousin of my character, Clyde. My character sheet project has really inspired me to draw all my characters, but I felt the urge to draw Adalynn in particular.
I had a few ideas on how to draw her, but I held off for…probably no good reason, but that’s okay. I have the tendency to do that, but that’s exactly what I’m working through. I did manage, however, to draw her eventually.
I decided I wanted to draw her in the fall, with leaves falling around her. She’s kind of looking over her shoulder for some variety and…yeah. That’s pretty much what I wanted. Something simple to draw, but still more interesting to look at. I think managed to do that.
I did the first version of the piece:
While I love the overall picture, I wasn’t satisfied with the effects in this one. It seemed very…I don’t know. Boring? Dull? I don’t like that blue overlay.
I honestly left it alone for a while until I started contemplating about what pieces of artwork of mine I like best. One of the things that stood out to me clearly was I like vibrancy. That lead me to redo the effects:
I have to say, similar to Kelly the Dreamer releasing dreams, I definitely PREFER the second one! I think it better suits the warmer fall colours, you can see some of the details better, and it’s overall better textured.
I don’t really have much to say about this picture, besides from behind the scenes. I don’t think this has any bearing on any of my stories. At most, I can imagine this is her turning around to say something to Clyde.
Oh! Since this is the first picture of Adalynn I’ve drawn in a loooooooong time and I haven’t done anything new with Clyde yet, I should probably talk about their eyes. If you’re looking at Adalynn’s eye and you think it looks weird, you would be right!
Adalynn and Clyde’s families come from a long line of protectors and guardians, specifically of a special tree nicknamed the Life Tree, although it’s more appropriately named a Regulation Tree. All my worlds have different energy make-ups that allow for different rules on how things function. One of the ways to regulate this is through these Regulation Trees. People who want to change things historically have tried to either destroy or take over these trees, but usually, there are people who are natural-born protectors and guardians nearby. The ancestors of Adalynn and Clyde’s families, originally farmers who focused on harvesting grain and vegetables, had stepped in to protect the tree and were granted status of Guardians of the Regulation Tree and given the special pupil shape to denote their position. It’s a trait that shows up in all offspring. You get the pupil shape, plus an addition ability to help protect the Regulation Tree.
You’ll get more about all this when I finally start posting stories. I can’t guarantee the exact stories involving Clyde and Adalynn’s families or the Regulation Tree will be among the stories released in April 2021, but you’ll eventually be able to read more about them.
